Howdy Folks. Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a benefit show for my fellow law student Dara Wasalik this Thursday at Stepbrother’s in Norman. This is on Asp in Norman; just drive west from the Red Dirt/Firehouse until you see it on the right. Dara is an extremely sweet person who was in an accident last fall. She is doing much better now, but could use a great deal of help defraying medical costs. I’m not sure what artists will be playing, but we will perform at some point between 7:00 and 10:00 [UPDATE: We will be putting on a regular show at this venue starting at 10:30. At that point, it will not longer be an official OU function, so let the "good times" roll]. I believe it’s $5 at the door and, of course, all proceeds go to help Dara. Your help is greatly appreciated particularly by me on behalf of my friend.

I wanted to thank all of the fans once again who voted at for us at Payne County Line. The Payne County Line awards have been posted and we were voted “Best Red Dirt Band.” In addition, I was awarded “Native American Artist of the Year” (I know many of you thought I was Irish; but in fact, I am half Native American). Thanks to everyone for these honors.

Speaking of Payne County Line, you can click here to read a review of our CD. Our thanks to Stan Moffat for his great review (and Brandon for his comments).

Friday we played for the first time at the Firehouse in Norman. I had sprained my ankle the night before carrying some equipment in the dark (stepped in a hole). I wasn’t able to jump off any speakers, but managed to stand up for the show (I was afraid I was going to have to sit like BB King). Our good friends Butterball and Co. made it out. We hadn’t seen the Prague boys in some time, so it was good to have them up.

During sound check, I couldn’t find one of my cords and in frustration let an emphatic “Son of a *@#$!” fly out of my mouth. Fitch who was busing adjusting his drum kit promptly looked up and asked “What?” (There’s a joke in there somewhere; just think about it).

At some point during the show a fan walked up to the stage, wallet in hand, and threw a $100 bill on stage before walking out. That’s definitely the biggest tip we’ve ever received for playing. I wasn’t able to recognize who it was for sure, but I think I may know him. I wish I knew for sure so I could thank him personally, but whoever it was, it was greatly appreciated. If you happen to have woke up wondering what the hell happened to that other $100 you thought you had, well…it went to a good cause.

After some very persistent requests, we played “Boys From Oklahoma” for the first time ever. I don’t know all the verses so we just had volunteers from the crowd come onstage to sing. Greg Reichel played bass, and it ended up being a pretty fun time. You never know how the nights gonna go. Thanks to everyone who came out and made our first show there a good one.

I know I’ve been promising, but I should have new dates up maybe toward the end of the week. Don’t hold me to that and as always….

Thanks for Lisnen,

Dameon
